For years Raleigh’s Hispanic community has peacefully protested for the rights of our city’s undocumented community. This protest occurred downtown with only a small RPD presence to assist street crossing and crowd observance. An unguarded front gate was left untouched as the protesters organized in front of Gov. McCrory’s Mansion.
NC’s grinning Governor McCrory signed HB 318 which was vengeful racist legislation restricting the “Identity Documents” NC’s local governments could accept from their undocumented community. The new law restricted towns and cities from setting up programs and policies to protect and serve their most vulnerable residents. HB 318 was genocidal policy designed to remove an individual’s identity by removing their ability to identify themselves.
